How can I alter or adjust my current plan to reduce barriers in one of my learning activities?

Our main topic is daily communication in Chinese for beginners. One of the learning activities I planned was using Chinese to make a TikTok video in small groups in which they could be creative about the content as long as they use what they learned from our Chinese class. One possible barrier would be that learners do not know how to access TikTok. My solution to this problem is to record a video as instructions showing the specific steps of how to download the app and how to post a video on it. Another possible barrier could be related to group work such as how to form a group, and what if some learners do not like group work. My plan is to let learners choose their own group members first, and if some students cannot find group members within 2 weeks, they will be randomly assigned. If some learners are not really comfortable with doing this activity with others, we can communicate about the issue, and they can choose whether they want to do it in a group or by themselves. Also, how to allocate tasks within a group might be a potential barrier to student success. I know how hard it is to evenly distributed task within a group and my solution to this problem is that I can assign this activity to different roles and every group will get a sign-up sheet to decide the roles within their group. My allocation is just one choice, and learners can have their own way to do it. Before submitting the final work, each member should submit their work according to their roles, and then they can start to work together on their final video. It is important to make sure that everyone takes responsibility for group work.

How will my interactive learning resource specifically ensure that the needs of all learners can be met?

Our group plans to cover four aspects of language learning, speaking, listening, reading and writing. Covering these four aspects ensures learners can get a chance to enhance the ability that they need in order to acquire a new language. It is also important for us to consider that some learners may already have some experience in Chinese, or they may simply wish to enhance one or two aspects of Chinese, for this reason, we allow them to select from the content we offer in our course to study in a targeted manner by offering all four aspects.

  1. Hi, Yixian.
Fantastic post! Your thoughtful approach to addressing potential barriers and meeting the needs of all learners in your learning activities is evident. You’ve tackled the often challenging task of allocating tasks within groups with a thoughtful approach. By assigning roles and empowering each group to determine their own allocation method, you promote inclusivity and cooperation. The requirement of individual submissions based on roles before collaborating on the final video fosters accountability and ensures equal participation. Thank you for your sharing.
